Pomperaug High School Students Honored for Academic Excellence

   Fifty Pomperaug High School students were honored on Thursday morning for their scholastic excellence. These students, as well as 25 students from the Class of 2007, received a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) or more as a final grade last year. 

   Of the fifty students celebrated at the breakfast, 16 are seniors, 11 are juniors, and 23 are sophomores.

   School and District administrators and teachers were on hand to congratulate the students.

   “By achieving at least a 4.0 GPA last year, you have put yourself into an elite group and represent the finest examples of academic achievement at PHS,” said Mr. James Agostine, Principal of Pomperaug High School.

   Mr. Agostine called each student’s name and asked him or her to come up to be acknowledged. As he shook their hands, Mr. Agostine asked the students about their favorite class. Responses ranged from English to Advanced Placement Government.

   “It takes determination and dedication to create this sound work ethic that you will need to succeed in the 21^st Century,” said School Superintendent Dr. Frank Sippy.

   Stressing the hard work put in by the high achievers, Dr. Lois Lanning, Assistant Superintendent, praised the students’ effort. “It’s the hard work that makes the pathway to life more successful. You are testimony that our students take their schooling very seriously.”
