Kindness in School/Home/Community
Gainfield
Elementary School 5th grade students participated in
"World Kindness Week", by spreading random

kindness joined the 5th grade class together with a

Second Graders Study Church's Art with Unique Writing
Piece
The Gainfield
Elementary School second graders studied the above
painting, "Mt. Ktaadn, 1853" by
Frederic Edwin Church. The students focused their ideas
(one of the The Six Traits of Writing) in a writing
piece whereby they imagined themselves as the person in
the painting. They also were inspired by Church's work
in incorporating the five senses.

PES:
Kindergarten Visit to Gingerbread Village
Pomperaug Elementary School Kindergarten classes
visited The
Gingerbread Village held at St. Georges Church in
Middlebury. The students each received a decorated
gingerbread cookie and then toured the village which
consisted of various houses, historic buildings,
toy boxes, farms, and animals all made from gingerbread
and candies. Pictured are students from Mrs.
Rosa's morning Kindergarten class.
Estimation
The MES Friendly Helpers at MES held a fundraiser for
families in financial need. MES students could guess
the number of M&M's in a jar for $1.00. With
1,364 M&M's in the jar, the winner guessing
1,370 was Katie S. in Mrs. Minutillo's 5th grade class.
Third Grader Carey C. took 2nd place while Mrs. Benson's
AM Kindergarten tied for 3rd place with Julia D., also
in Mrs. Benson's class. Guessing the number of
M&M's in the jar correlates with the Mail
Trailblazers Program in teaching estimation for
grades K-5.
