Dr. Sippy at MMS
Region 15 Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Frank Sippy, recently visited 6th grade students at Memorial Middle School to share a slide show presentation of his trip to Egypt. Students throughout Region 15 study Ancient Egypt as part of their Social Studies curriculum. Dr. Sippy stands before a slide depicting the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

 

Kindergartners Celebrate
100 Days!

Kindergartners throughout Region 15 celebrated 100 days in school. They've counted to 100 by ones and tens, sorted and weighed items by matter, and decorated 100 Day Hats.

PES 4th/5th Graders Vote on Books
PES fourth and fifth graders at PES are reading the Nutmeg Nominee Books, nominated by the CT Library Assn and the CT Educational Media Assn. Students throughout the state voted on their favorite Nutmeg Nominee book and the winner is determined by student vote at the end of January. Fourth grade students constructed dioramas and book covers of their favorite books.

MES Celebrations
The MES 2nd grade class gave a performance during "Celebrations", an assembly held monthly to celebrate student accomplishments. Nick S. and Erin M. (right) display their winter art scenes.

GES Letters to Troops
First grade students from Mrs. Susan Sundholm's class at Gainfield Elementary School wrote letters to U.S. soldiers as part of a lesson on writing a friendly letter...READ MORE & SEE PICS>>

PES 4th Grade Winter Concert
The 4th graders at Pomperaug Elementary School had their winter
concert on January 9
, led by their music teacher, Ms. Linnea Bronson.  They sang such selections as "Mamalama", "Swing Low", and "Snow Beautiful Snow." There were also special selections featuring the 4th grade recorder and drum ensembles. This is the first year Ms. Bronson has taught music at PES.

LMES PJ StoryHour

First Presentation of the Proposed School Budget
Dr. Sippy will make his budget proposal to the Region 15 Board of Education on Monday, February 26th at 7:30pm, PHS all purpose room. All residents are invited to attend.

Perpetual Fund: Bridgeport Soundtigers: $12 Tix
Order your tickets by calling the Soundtigers directly at 203-334-4625 ext. 203, mention the Region 15 PTO Perpetual Fund, and select which games you’d like to attend. Tickets will be available for pickup at the Will Call window prior to the game. Bus tickets ($5 extra) will be sold during lunches at the middle schools. If you have any questions, contact Shane Beardsley at the Bridgeport Soundtigers or your Perpetual Fund rep.

The staff and student-produced cable tv show, "Inside the District" will be airing a new episode in February & March. Topics include: Science Curriculum K-8; Wellness Committee; Grade 5 Band; GES' Gr. 5 artwork (see left), and student achievements....

Babysitting Fundraiser
PHS Spanish Honor Society students are offering babysitting services on March 2nd from 4:00-8:00pm at the PHS old gym. The suggested donation is $10 per child and proceeds raised will be used toward a mission trip to a 120-bed orphanage in Colima, Mexico. Email to register your child(ren).

PHS Art Teacher: NYC Art Show
In April, PHS art teacher Mr. Florin Firimita will be part of a group show in Chelsea, at ART GOTHAM Gallery, 547 West 27th Street (between 10th and 11th Aves.) in New York City. There is also a Saturday Brunch Reception on April 7th, from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Works will be on view from April 5 - 19.
