PHS: JAG Blood Drive
Pomperaug High
School's marketing students recently joined forces with
student members of Jobs for America's Graduates to
promote the service organization's 8th Annual Blood
Drive for the American Red Cross. The theme for the
event was ‘Be A Superhero - Save Lives - Donate Blood’,
and the event was dedicated to PHS's beloved substitute
teacher, Mr. Charlie Paddock.

Resource Officer Update
At the Feb. 22
budget workshop, the Southbury Board of Selectman
voted 5-1 to support and fund the position and
added it to the recommended town budget. Sgt. Kramer was
also in support and has at least 3 candidates on the police

MMS Sports
Congratulations to the MMS winter sports teams
(cheerleading and boys and girls basketball) for very
successful programs. The MMS Girls Basketball Team
achieved an 18-0 record this season and are 69-1 over
the past four seasons, and currently are riding a
65-game winning streak. Congrats to Coach Michael Mitrukiewicz!
PHS Swimming
The Pomperaug Boy's Swimming & Diving team completed
their season undefeated, winning the SWC Championship
and claiming the Class M State title. There were
countless breakthroughs including various state and
school records, such as the 200 Freestyle Relay Team of
Benjamin S., Travis M., Connor M., and James W. This
team broke both the state and school records and went
All-American with a time of 1:26:20.

MES
Valentines
Students from
Middlebury Elementary School recently made Cat
Valentines to show how they care for others. The
Valentines were made as part of the Friendship
Group with Guidance Counselors Mrs. Kemp and
Miss Pizone. Sharing,
respecting others and being sensitive were some
of the ways the children showed their “Random
Acts of Kindness”. Seated
left to right are first, third and fourth grade
students from Mrs. Lettick, Mrs. Flisher, Mrs.
Wengler, Mrs. Koppel, Miss McCann and Mrs.
Higgins classrooms.

Jump Rope for
Heart
Region 15's four elementary schools participate in
Jump Rope for Heart, an annual fundraiser for the
American Heart Association. During the fitness
portion of their physical education class, students
at LMES, for example, train for about 4 weeks prior
to the February event. Not only does Jump Rope for
Heart raise funds for a good cause, it helps boost
endurance and gives students the chance to practice
and perfect jump rope skills which include single
jumping, jumping with a partner, long ropes and
double-dutch.
