Festival
The fourth graders

host an Immigration
Festival for their
family and friends,
giving an oral
history and food
sampling about
people who
immigrated to the

Pride and
Prejudice
The Pomperaug Theatre
Company is preparing
a new production for
this spring, Jon
Jory's theatrical
adaptation of Jane
Austen's Pride and
Prejudice. This is a
show that ties in
closely with PHS
curriculum, based on
one of the most
dynamic pieces of
literature in the
English language. It
will be presented in
our auditorium on
Friday, May 2nd &
Saturday, May 3rd at
7:30p.m., and on
Sunday May 4th at
2:30 p.m. This show
marks the first time
a major production
at PHS is student
directed. Senior
Nick M. will direct
the play under Mr.
Doniger's
supervision.

Four teams from
Pomperaug Elementary
School competed

across the state, in

Odyssey of the Mind

Pal-ing Around at
PHS
Mrs. Deschino's and
Mrs. Sussman's LC
classrooms invited
their friends from
the highschool to
join them on a
bowling trip to
Thomaston
Lanes. Twenty-two
students enjoyed an
afternoon of
spirited bowling
competition. This
trip followed a
jigsaw puzzle
competition two
weeks ago. Jessie
J. and Amanda W. won
the gift certificate
to Starbucks for
finishing their
puzzle first.
Eighteen students
competed in this
after-school
competition. These
activities and more
will be included in
a new club next
year called PALS
to promote social
interactions with
all of Pomperaug's
students.

History Day
competition, under

MMS French & Spanish
Students Take
National Exam
In March/April,
23 Spanish students
and 21 French
students took
the National Exam in
Spanish and French,
respectively.
Additionally, 7
French students took
the National Writing
Exam.
Studying Ellis
Island
Mrs. Napoti, a
resident of Heritage
Village and former
Social Studies
teacher, gave a
PowerPoint
presentation to the
PES 4th grade
students who have
been studying
immigration. Mrs.
Napoti's parents
immigrated to the
United States from
Europe and came
through Ellis
Island.
5th & 6th Grade
String Festival
On April 8th, 6th
graders from
Memorial Middle
School and
Rochambeau Middle
School, as well as
the 5th grade string
students from
Gainfield,
Pomperaug, Long
Meadow, and
Middlebury
Elementary Schools
rehearsed at the
Pomperaug High
School auditorium in
preparation for the
evening's String
Orchestra Festival.
The string musicians
are taught by Mrs.
Linda Hughes and Ms.
Sarah Siegler, while
Mr. Don West teaches
those students
interested in band.
"One of the nicest
aspects of this
festival is the
opportunity for the
string students
in the elementary
and middle schools
to perform together,"
said Mrs. Linda

PHS Swim & Diving
Team
The Boys Swim Team
went undefeated in
the regular season,
won the Southwest
Conference, State
Class L and State
Open Championships,
under the guidance
of head coach Fran
Pentino.
PHS Gymnastics
The Girls Gymnastics
Team won the
Southwest Conference
and State Class M
Champions, under
head coach Hal
Rettstadt.
Region 15 BOE Adopted Budget
The
Region 15 Board of Education has
adopted a budget to the
Region 15 Board of Education in the
amount of $59,430,160 (5.88%
increase) for the 2008-2009 school
year. More details will be
distributed after Spring Recess.

Society will sponsor babysitting at PHS

The Pomperaug Guidance Association is
accepting donations of gently used prom
dresses to give to Waterbury girls who
cannot afford to buy one. Bring your old
dresses to the PHS Guidance Dept. by April
30th.

Inspiration of Science and Technology) Teams:
The Panther Project (PHS); The Mindstorm
Mustangs (MMS); and Lego Leopards (LMES).
Date/Time: May 13th, 7:00pm--PHS All Purpose

Students representing the FBLA will be
walking at Quassy on April 27th to raise
