GES Immigration Festival
The fourth graders at Gainfield Elementary School host an Immigration Festival for their family and friends, giving an oral history and food sampling about people who immigrated to the US...READ MORE & SEE PICS>>

Pride and Prejudice
The Pomperaug Theatre Company is preparing a new production for this spring, Jon Jory's theatrical adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. This is a show that ties in closely with PHS curriculum, based on one of the most dynamic pieces of literature in the English language. It will be presented in our auditorium on Friday, May 2nd & Saturday, May 3rd at 7:30p.m., and on Sunday May 4th at 2:30 p.m. This show marks the first time a major production at PHS is student directed. Senior Nick M. will direct the play under Mr. Doniger's supervision.

Odyssey of the Mind
Four teams from Pomperaug Elementary School competed (see two teams of the four), along with 119 teams from across the state, in the Connecticut Odyssey of the Mind competition...

Pal-ing Around at PHS
Mrs. Deschino's and Mrs. Sussman's LC classrooms invited their friends from the highschool to join them on a bowling trip to Thomaston Lanes. Twenty-two students enjoyed an afternoon of spirited bowling competition. This trip followed a jigsaw puzzle competition two weeks ago.  Jessie J. and Amanda W. won the gift certificate to Starbucks for finishing their puzzle first.  Eighteen students competed in this after-school competition. These activities and more will be included in a new club next year called PALS to promote social interactions with all of Pomperaug's students.

LMES Recognized for Food Allergy Awareness
Long Meadow Elementary School received The Mariel C. Furlong Award which recognizes individuals, schools, and school nurses who make a tremendous difference in the lives of children with food allergies. The award is sponsored by the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network.

MES 5th Grade Art Enrichment Students Have Art Show
The Middlebury Elementary School art enrichment 5th graders proudly displayed their artwork at the Good News Cafe in Woodbury. A short segment of the show is featured on an upcoming episode of "Inside the District"...

Nine Students Win Scholastic Art Awards
Nine students from PHS, MMS, and RMS won high honors at the annual Scholastic Art Awards....READ MORE>>

RMS Students Study Acid Rain
Sixth graders from Miss Fingon's class created and shared informative brochures on the dangers of Acid Rain and how to help prevent it for the upcoming Earth Day. The brochures are on display at the RMS media center and will put them at the Southbury Town Hall and Public Library on Earth Day....READ MORE>>

MMS French & Spanish Students Take National Exam
In March/April, 23 Spanish students and 21 French students took the National Exam in Spanish and French, respectively. Additionally, 7 French students took the National Writing Exam.

Studying Ellis Island
Mrs. Napoti, a resident of Heritage Village and former Social Studies teacher, gave a PowerPoint presentation to the PES 4th grade students who have been studying immigration. Mrs. Napoti's parents immigrated to the United States from Europe and came through Ellis Island.

5th & 6th Grade String Festival
On April 8th, 6th graders from Memorial Middle School and Rochambeau Middle School, as well as the 5th grade string students from Gainfield, Pomperaug, Long Meadow, and Middlebury Elementary Schools rehearsed at the Pomperaug High School auditorium in preparation for the evening's String Orchestra Festival. The string musicians are taught by Mrs. Linda Hughes and Ms. Sarah Siegler, while Mr. Don West teaches those students interested in band. "One of the nicest aspects of this festival is the opportunity for the string students in the elementary and middle schools to perform together," said Mrs. Linda Hughes, music teacher....

PHS Swim & Diving Team
The Boys Swim Team went undefeated in the regular season, won the Southwest Conference, State Class L and State Open Championships, under the guidance of head coach Fran Pentino.

PHS Gymnastics
The Girls Gymnastics Team won the Southwest Conference and State Class M Champions, under head coach Hal Rettstadt.

The Region 15 Board of Education has adopted a budget to the Region 15 Board of Education in the amount of $59,430,160 (5.88% increase) for the 2008-2009 school year. More details will be distributed after Spring Recess.

Babysitting at PHS in May
Pomperaug High School's Spanish Honor Society will sponsor babysitting at PHS Auxiliary Gym, 5:30-8:30pm on May 9th, $10 per child. This is the last babysitting of the year. To register, email Diane Miller.

PHS Baseball at Harbor Yard - Tonight at 7:00pm
Tonight -- April 11th: PHS's Varsity Baseball Team takes on Weston under the lights at Bridgeport Bluefish's Harbor Yard Stadium. $5 per person. Baseball/Softball players under age 12 wearing their uniform admitted FREE.

The Pomperaug Guidance Association is accepting donations of gently used prom dresses to give to Waterbury girls who cannot afford to buy one. Bring your old dresses to the PHS Guidance Dept. by April 30th.

Project Panther Team 2064 invites you to an Open House to showcase and celebrate the achievements by the Region's FIRST (For Inspiration of Science and Technology) Teams: The Panther Project (PHS); The Mindstorm Mustangs (MMS); and Lego Leopards (LMES). Date/Time: May 13th, 7:00pm--PHS All Purpose Room

Team 2064-The Panther Project Family Night with the Rock Cats
May 20th, Game Time 6:35pm, but get there early for pre-game Robotics Events. Proceeds will benefit Team 2064-The Panther Project. Reserve tix by May 6th by contacting Christine Dibble.

PHS's FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) to Fundraise for March of Dimes
Students representing the FBLA will be walking at Quassy on April 27th to raise money for the March of Dimes. To make a donation or participate in the walk, click here.

PTO Dinner
The Region 15 PTO Dinner (buffet) will be held at the Heritage on Tuesday, April 29th.   If you would like to attend and have not yet sent in payment, please send payment directly to LMES c/o Kathy DeRienzo for $35 per person.   Please also call Kathy at 267-7626 to let her know you plan to attend.
