Pomperaug High School Drama Presents
Cole Porter's ANYTHING GOES

Come to the Pomperaug High School auditorium on the May 4 - 6, 2007 for a classic American musical comedy. Cole Porter’s Anything Goes will be performed by Pomperaug High School students, actors, singers, dancers, and musicians, under the direction of Mr. Paul E. Doniger. The vocalists are under the leadership of Mr. Christian Banach, the dancers under Ms. Nicole Antosh, and the orchestra under the direction of Mr. Robert D’Angelo. Anything Goes, a show that might be easily re-titled The Best of Cole Porter, was first performed in 1934 and has been a perennial favorite ever since. PHS will be staging the show with the additional songs and changes from its 1962 revival.

This typically light-hearted story follows the customary boy-chases-girl plot of the traditional musical comedy; this time the chase occurs on board an ocean liner bound for England from New York City. Among the colorful characters on board are our hero, the young and cocky Billy Crocker; Billy’s nearsighted boss, Elisha J. Whitney; the loveable gangster, Moonface Martin, who aspires to move up from Public Enemy #13 to the coveted #12 slot; Martin’s dancing and singing “moll,” Bonnie; a rather dull-witted (but also loveable) English Lord, Sir Evelyn Oakleigh, who is engaged to the hero’s sweetheart (Hope Harcourt); Hope’s snobby and ambitious mother; and the unforgettable Reno Sweeney, a former Evangelist turned nightclub singer – complete with her backup singing group of four “Angels” (Charity, Chastity, Purity, and Virtue). The songs include such Cole Porter favorites as “Friendship,” “It’s Delovely,” “Let’s Misbehave,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” and of course the title song, “Anything Goes.”

The cast of over 40 PHS students will include Emily C. as Reno, Kate B. as Hope, Lindsay D. as Bonnie, R. J. S. as Billy, and Dom N. as Moonface Martin. Olivia C. is serving as Mr. Doniger’s assistant director and Kt R. returns as stage manager for this production.

Anything Goes, Mr. Doniger’s first musical at PHS, will be presented with one intermission of approximately 15 minutes. The play will run for about two hours. On Friday and Saturday the 4th and 5th, the show will start at 7:30pm and on Sunday the 6th at 2:30pm. Tickets will be on sale in April @ $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and senior citizens. Come and enjoy this classic musical comedy.
