REGION 15 SCHOOL DISTRICT NOW POSTS JOB OPENINGS AND
DISTRIBUTES APPLICATIONS ONLINE

The Pomperaug Regional School District 15 has now launched a web based system for
collecting, storing and processing employment applications. The program, called Applitrack,
is used by about 760 school districts around the nation.

Making the application process electronic will not change the protocols that Region 15 follows
regarding the hiring process.  However, the process by which the District uses to list job postings,
and collect, sort, and distribute applications will. Non-teaching “classified” positions, however, will
not be posted online until September 2008.

With the software, the applicant electronically submits cover letters, resumes, transcripts,
certifications and letters of recommendations. Because documents are electronic, the paper
handling process is virtually eliminated, freeing up staff time.  Secondly, the received applications
are instantly routed to the person who is responsible for filling the position.  For example, elementary
teacher applications would be directly forwarded to the school principal for his or her immediate review.

“Hiring in the education profession is a very seasonal practice and the window to access high quality
candidates is relatively small. During this window, districts across the state are all trying to hire the
best candidates before they commit to another district. One of the most powerful aspects of the
Applitrack software is that it will give administrators immediate access to applications and put our
district in a more competitive position to attain the best teachers. Applitrack will provide instant access
to applications and Administrators like myself will be able to review them at any time from any computer
with internet access,” said Jack Zamary, Principal of Middlebury Elementary School.

The Region 15 Human Resources department has found the new system of applying very helpful and
user friendly.

“Applicants are also responding well to this process,” said Ms. Marilyn Casolino, Personnel Records
Manager. “I think most people are comfortable these days accessing the Internet, as well as uploading
and scanning documents. Actually it is easier and neater than completing an application by hand. Also,
having everything electronically stored eliminates the need for paper storage.”
