RESIDENTS INVITED TO RIDE FREE SHUTTLE TO REGION 15 ART SHOW

Public Can Pick Up Shuttle at Heritage Village Parking Lot

On Saturday, April 30, Region 15 will offer a free shuttle bus for the public to attend the 17th Annual Region 15 Art Gallery. The shuttle, which is open to all Middlebury and Southbury residents, will leave the Pattock lot in Heritage Village every hour on the hour at 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 12:00 p.m. The bus will drop passengers off at the front entrance of Pomperaug High School. At their convenience, riders can then pick up the bus at the high school on the half-hour at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. to return to the Heritage Village. The bus service is not mandatory but is being extended to those without transportation or who may have difficulty walking some distance.

First Student Bus Company has graciously donated a bus and driver free of charge to the school system and members of the community.

The Region 15 Art Gallery will be open Friday, April 29 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 30 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Pomperaug High School gymnasium. The shuttle bus will be available to the public on Saturday only.

“We want to have as many people in town see the students’ art work,” said Jane Sarjeant, Director of Fine Arts. “Riders will be dropped off at the front door of the high school, under the protection of an overhang. We’d like to make it safe, convenient, and fun for everyone to attend the art gallery.”

Part of the consideration for instituting a shuttle bus service is that the walk to the high school entrance from the recently-added, lower parking lot may be too tiring for some visitors to the art show. These parking spaces were created as part of the high school renovation project completed last fall.

Attendees can walk through the art show, starting with the kindergarten work and wind their way through elementary, middle, and high school and advanced placement art pieces. The artwork is separated into these groups so the viewer can witness the maturation of the students’ creativity and technique over time.

While every effort is made to show artwork from as many students as possible, every student will not have his or her work displayed at the gallery. However, student work is often displayed at town public buildings, the Region 15 central office, and within the schools throughout the year.

Admission to the Region 15 Art Show is free. “I hope the addition of the new shuttle bus service will encourage more people to come out for the art gallery,” said Mrs. Sarjeant. “It’ll be a beautiful way to spend a Saturday morning.”
