Fantastic Opportunity for High
School Students
For the past eight years, PHS art teacher, Mr. Florin Firimita has been involved with the MAT (Multicultural Arts and Technology) program at Central CT State University, first as a teacher, then for the past five years, as the Visual Arts co-director along with Michael Richters. It is a huge ($350,000) State of CT grant we have been managing since 2000, and we need to spend it on our students. This program is for anyone who knows exceptional students interested in visual arts, photography, dance, writing, theater, music, African drumming, etc. Some of the best musicians, artists, actors, teachers from the United States will be guest artists this year. The program is split into two categories: visual and performing arts, and we are selecting the BEST high school students in the state of CT. Out of 3000 applicants, we select about 80.
Please read carefully the
requirements, and contact Dr. Cofrancesco or Mr.
Firimita if you know any students interested, and if you
have any questions.
Seniors cannot apply.
The individual scholarships are $3,500; the students
will only pay the application fee of $100. There are
field trips included to Broadway shows, art museums, and
also leisure activities. Food is great; the campus is
very safe. There is also a lot of work, and a great
exhibit/ performance show at the end of the program. It
has been the highlight of my teaching year every year
since 2000. For PHS students, full year credit in the
arts will be given for students accepted into the
program. Last, please feel free to spread to word around
to other regions as well.
