REGION 15 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS TO SERVE BOAR’S HEAD DELI SANDWICHES
New Sandwiches Have Lower Fat & Sodium

The cafeterias at Pomperaug High School, Memorial Middle School, and Rochambeau Middle School will soon be offering deli sandwiches made exclusively with Boar’s Head meats.

The sandwiches will now cost twenty-five (25) cents more than before because the lower fat and sodium Boar’s Head meats are more expensive than the current deli products. A deli sandwich meal will cost students $2.25, which includes the sandwich, milk, dessert, baked chips, and fruit.

“The introduction of Boar’s Head deli sandwiches to our lunch offerings is a significant step toward healthier eating,” said Peter Brooks, Region 15’s Food Service Director. “We got an overwhelming response from the students when we did a one-day trial.”

Pomperaug High School students will be able to purchase Boar’s Head deli sandwiches, starting February 26th. The new sandwiches will be on the middle school menus, starting March 1st.

Last week, cafeteria workers at Pomperaug High School held a test-run of the new sandwiches. The lunch staff was pleased with the sales. Typically, PHS sells approximately 125 deli sandwiches daily. During the test, they sold over 350 Boar’s Head sandwiches.

According to the Boar’s Head website, the company touts its meats as having no by-products, no cereals or fillers, and no artificial flavors or colors. Nineteen Boar’s Head products have been certified by the American Heart Association, and have lower fat and sodium contents.
