Board of Education Chair Thankful for Support On behalf of the Region 15 Board of Education, I wish to express my thanks to the citizens of Middlebury and Southbury for their support of the school budget. I would like to thank the members of the Board of Education who met with the communities to prepare the budget. Board of Education finance chairman Dr. Kenneth Paddyfote contributed his invaluable experience to craft a budget that would address the needs of the students while weighing the taxpayer’s ability to pay. Mr. Joseph Zukoski, III met with PTOs to listen to their concerns and help bridge communication between the Board of Education and the parent community. The Board would like to recognize the Middlebury and Southbury Selectmen and the representatives from the towns’ Boards of Finance. They listened, queried, and were an integral part of the budget development process. The Board of Education also owes a great deal of gratitude to the parents, grandparents, seniors, and PTO members who worked to get people out to the polls. I wish to commend the school leaders who examined and prioritized programs and building infrastructure issues. We can now put back programs that will strengthen student learning and instruction due to personnel changes and lower health insurance costs. Finally, I want to thank our superintendent of schools, Dr. Frank Sippy, and assistant superintendent, Dr. Lois Lanning and Director of Finance & Operations, Mr. Keith McLiverty, for their hard work putting together the budget proposals and their presentations to the town leaders, citizens, PTOs, and the Board of Education. By supporting the 2006-2007 school budget, you have made the Region 15 Board of Education stewards of your hard-earned tax dollars. We take this responsibility seriously and will work to bring the best education possible to the children of Middlebury and Southbury. Joseph
J. Drauss, Chairperson
