3. INFORMATION AND PROPOSALS:

A. Athletics: In response to the concern brought to Personnel Policies/Curriculum Committee this past Fall about our cross country students using Judd Road for practice, Mr. Velardi outline three options to be considered:

1. After school bus: Estimated cost $100 per day/$15,000 per year. A positive is that students would run at different sites. Negatives include it will take extra time to bus to and from sites and this will be a reoccurring cost.

2. Build a path from Long Meadow Elementary School: Estimated cost $80,000 plus. This option gives limited time on a roadway and on a road with greater visibility (Route 188). A downside may be access to the path when there is snow on the ground.

INFORMATION AND PROPOSALS

3. Run around Pomperaug High School property: Estimated cost $0. This option keeps runners in a contained space. There are several problems with this option which include, it limits access to other fields; weather may prohibit (e.g. snow) and the parking lots are very congested.

Personnel Policies/Curriculum Committee members asked questions. Mr. Velardi and three cross country coaches responded. The coaches discussed the emphasis they place on safety.

Mr. Erwin suggested that the two towns be approached to support the cost of a bridge between Long Meadow Elementary School and Pomperaug High School. These options will be further studied by Board of Education members.

B. Proposal for Teacher Exchange: Dr. Lanning shared the letter that Dr. Sippy and Mr. Chen signed in an effort to move our sister-schools partnership forward. Personnel Policies/Curriculum Committee members expressed their enthusiastic response to meeting our Chinese guests.

4. REVIEW OF PERSONNEL: Dr. Sippy presented Exhibit A and the addendum. Mr. Erwin made a motion to recommend the full Board approve Exhibit A and the addendum at tonight’s Board of Education meeting and seconded by Ms. Elias and all committee members approved to advance to the full Board.
