Constitution Day Contest
Two Pomperaug High School students, Elie B. and Dorothy D., won for their entries in the Constitution Day Poster and Essay Contest, sponsored by Connecticut Consortium for Law and Citizenship Education, Inc. The students were asked to explain in a one page, written essay how the Constitution impacts their lives personally. Elie's essay highlighted the Constitution's declaration of the right to religious expression. As an 18-year-old Asian female, Dorothy discussed the Constitution's role in protecting her right to vote, as an adult, a female and a minority. "It also protects our freedom of expression that is so characteristic of America," Dorothy explained. The students both received a gift certificate to a book store and a savings bond. |
