Offerings: Family and
Consumer Sciences International
Cultures and Cuisine
(1/2 year, 1/2
credit)
The course is for any student who would like to become more
familiar with cooking styles and food choices of a variety of
cultures. Differences in international cuisine and the
historical and geographical reasons for these differences will
be explored.
Basic Food Preparation
(1/2 year, 1/2
credit)
The course will teach students how to cook, what to cook, when
to cook, and how to enjoy eating what you cook.
Clothing and You
(1/2 year, 1/2 credit)
This course will teach students how to use a sewing machine.
Independent Living
(1/2 year, 1/2 credit)
Designed for Grades 11-12
This course teaches the skills for living on your own, including
earning, spending, saving and managing money. This course will
also cover responsible decision making related to substance
abuse.
Interior Design
(1/2 year, 1/2 credit)
This course teaches students how to plan, care for and decorate
their own room, apartment, or home. Other areas covered are
decisions to buy or rent, careers in interior design, and buying
or refinishing furniture.
Culinary Arts
(1/2 year, 1/2 credit)
Students will learn about
food knowledge and preparation skills for quantity food service.
The class plans, prepares, and serves staff luncheons and food
sales.
Exploring Childhood I
(1/2 year, 1/2 credit)
Students will learn about
the development of children from prenatal life to 3 years of
age, to develop a better understanding of children and the
responsibilities of parenting and child care.
Exploring Childhood II
(1/2 year, 1/2 credit)
Prerequisite: Exploring Childhood I
Students will spend more time interacting with preschool aged
children. The content of the course will emphasize the physical,
cognitive, social and emotional development of the preschooler.
