Grade Level: Grade 2


Goal 1: Skills for Learning
The student acquires the attitudes, knowledge, aptitudes, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school.

The student will:

1. Demonstrate an awareness of the relationship between learning and effort.
2. Work successfully and independently with others.

 

Goal 2: School Success
The student employs strategies to achieve success in school.

The student will:

1. Apply school rules appropriately.
2. Describe the role and services of the school counselor.
3. Describe what is meant by a sense of belonging.
4. Demonstrate an awareness of boundaries and rights of self and others.

 

Goal 3: Academics to Life Success
The student
understands the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home and in the community.

The student will:

1. Review the components of cooperation.
2. Define how school and the world of work are related.
3. Begin to understand the problem-solving process.

 

Goal 4: Investigate Careers
The student acquires the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make career choices.

The student will:

1. Explain that everyone has different interests and strengths.
2. Demonstrate an awareness that all careers are important.

 

Goal 5: Career Success
Students will employ strategies to achieve future career success and satisfaction.

The student will:

1. Give a definition for "career".
2. Brainstorm choices when faced with a specific situation.
3. Discuss factors affecting career selection.
4. Discuss potential career choices.

 

Goal 6: Relationship Between School and Work
The student will understand the relationship between personal qualities, education and training in the world of work.

The student will:

1. State how personal qualities affect career choices.
2. Discuss work satisfaction.
3. Discuss the purpose of work.

 

Goal 7: Respect Self and Others
The student acquires the knowledge, attitudes, and interpersonal skills to help understand and respect self and others.

The student will:

1. Identify positive individual characteristics.
2. Discuss things that cause happiness, sadness, or anger.
3. Name activities that he/she can and cannot do well.
4. Discuss similarities and differences of others.
5. Identify things that strengthen and weaken a friendship.
6. Tell about the impact their actions have on others.

 

Goal 8: Goal Setting and Attainment
The student makes decisions, goal sets, and takes action.

The student will:

1. List different ways to solve a problem.
2. Show an awareness of individual characteristics needed to achieve goals.

 

Goal 9: Survival and Safety Skills
The student understands safety and survival skills.

The student will:

1. Identify emotions and their causes and consequences.
2. Explain the difference between appropriate and inappropriate ways to express anger.
3. Demonstrate an awareness of the effects drugs have on the body.
