Goal 1: Skills for Learning
The student acquires the attitudes, knowledge, aptitudes, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school.

The student will:

1. Practice effective means of communication.
2. Develop the ability to use positive self-talk.

 

Goal 2: School Success
The student employs strategies to achieve success in school.

The student will:

1. Review the role of the school counselor and how students can utilize these services.
2. Discuss choices and consequences.
3. Discuss methods for improving academic skills.

 

Goal 3: Academics to Life Success
The student
understands the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home and in the community.

The student will:

1. Develop an awareness of individual strengths and talents.
2. Identify the importance of putting forth his/her best effort.

 

Goal 4: Investigate Careers
The student acquires the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make career choices.

The student will:

1. Discuss the connection between interests and career fulfillment.
2. Explore the world of work.

 

Goal 5: Career Success
Students will employ strategies to achieve future career success and satisfaction.

The student will:

1. Define the relationship between work and individual success.
2. Explain how work/career choices are influenced by interests and abilities.
3. Discuss individual career possibilities for the future.

 

Goal 6: Relationship Between School and Work
The student will understand the relationship between personal qualities, education and training in the world of work.

The student will:

1. Discuss the characteristics needed to obtain a job.

 

Goal 7: Respect Self and Others
The student acquires the knowledge, attitudes, and interpersonal skills to help understand and respect self and others.

The student will:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of how his/her actions and words affect others.
2. Describe conflict resolution skills.
3. Practice learned conflict resolution skills and how they apply to friendship.
4. Describe what our words and actions tell about us.
5. State the need for accepting the differences of others.

 

Goal 8: Goal Setting and Attainment
The student makes decisions, goal sets, and takes action.

The student will:

1. Exhibit responsibility for personal choices.
2. Discuss the impact of school work on achievement of future goals.
3. Describe how his/her choices affect self and others.

 

Goal 9: Survival and Safety Skills
The student understands safety and survival skills.

The student will:

1. Demonstrate useful ways to cope with different feelings.
2. Review the concept of internal locus of control.
3. Learn strategies to aid in resisting problem situations.
