Goal 1: Skills for Learning
The student acquires the attitudes, knowledge,
aptitudes, and skills that contribute to effective learning in
school.
The student will:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of
services provided by various school staff.
2. Identify situations in which he/she needs to ask for help.
3. Identify support system for academic and interpersonal issues
that may arise at school.
4. Identify one's learning style in relation to the seven
multiple intelligences.
Goal 2: School Success
The student employs strategies to achieve success
in school.
The student will:
1. Participate in a discussion of
strategies for meeting the challenges of the middle school
environment.
2. Examine the impact of pressure and stress on problem solving.
3. Explore the risks, benefits, and consequences of decision
making.
4. Practice a technique for making decisions.
Goal 3: Academics to Life Success
The student understands
the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life
at home and in the community.
The student will:
1. Become aware of the
relationship of academic performance to future educational
choices.
2. Classify individual interests and abilities as they relate to
career goals.
3. Use time management techniques in handling homework
responsibilities.
Goal 4: Investigate Careers
The student acquires the skills to investigate
the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make
career choices.
The student will:
1. Describe skills related to
specific occupations.
2. Investigate the implications of sex role stereotyping in
career planning.
3. Describe how career development is a continuous process
within a series of choices.
4. Demonstrate the relationship between career and school
subjects.
Goal 5: Career Success
Students will employ strategies to achieve future
career success and satisfaction.
The student will:
1. Define elements of career
satisfaction.
2. Identify traditional and nontraditional occupations as they
relate to career choice.
3. Explain how changing economy and technology influence
employment opportunities.
Goal 6: Relationship Between School and
Work
The student will understand the relationship
between personal qualities, education and training in the world
of work.
The student will:
1. Compare the effect of personal
characteristics on career success.
2. Discuss how gaining more knowledge increases options.
3. Report on how the amount of education needed for different
occupational levels varies.
Goal 7: Respect Self and Others
The student acquires the knowledge, attitudes,
and interpersonal skills to help understand and respect self and
others.
The student will:
1. Demonstrate an awareness of
the negative aspect of cliques.
2. Illustrate the positive impact one's actions have on others.
3. Summarize the factors of influencing effective friendships.
Goal 8: Goal Setting and Attainment
The student makes decisions, goal sets, and takes
action.
The student will:
1. Apply appropriate personal and
interpersonal decisions using a decision-making/problem-solving
model.
2. Explain the importance of goal setting.
3. Develop effective coping skills for dealing with problems.
Goal 9: Survival and Safety Skills
The student understands safety and survival
skills.
The student will:
1. Identify when peer pressure is
influencing a decision.
2. Explain the difference between appropriate and inappropriate
physical contact.
3. Discuss the effects and consequences of decision-making when
it comes to peer pressure.
