Goal 1: Skills for Learning
The student acquires the attitudes, knowledge,
aptitudes, and skills that contribute to effective learning in
school.
The student will:
1. Implement effective
organizational study and test taking skills.
2. Define learning style preferences and their impact on
success.
3. Use time management techniques in handling homework
responsibility.
Goal 2: School Success
The student employs strategies to achieve success
in school.
The student will:
1. Identify situations in which
he/she needs to ask for help.
2. Analyze the impact of positive thinking on a school learning
situation.
3. Acquire knowledge and skills to work effectively in groups
regardless of race, ethnicity, or culture.
Goal 3: Academics to Life Success
The student understands
the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life
at home and in the community.
The student will:
1. Explain the importance of
balancing academic assignments, extracurricular activities,
family life, and leisure time activities in a healthy,
productive manner.
2. Identify healthy and unhealthy ways of coping with stress.
3. Discuss reasons how your responsibilities as a student
relates to the world of work.
Goal 4: Investigate Careers
The student acquires the skills to investigate
the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make
career choices.
The student will:
1. Identify the career clusters.
2. Practice using various career reference tools.
3. Relate personal attributes to future career opportunities.
Goal 5: Career Success
Students will employ strategies to achieve future
career success and satisfaction.
The student will:
1. Express future long-term goals
he/she would like to achieve.
2. Examine the value rules have in the workplace and in school.
3. Assess their interests, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
4. Examine negotiation as a strategy for success on the job.
Goal 6: Relationship Between School and
Work
The student will understand the relationship
between personal qualities, education and training in the world
of work.
The student will:
1. Demonstrate awareness of
academic and vocational programs offered at PHS and area
vocational schools.
2. Describe personal attitudes and qualities.
3. Recognize the relationship between education at the middle
school and future post-secondary options.
Goal 7: Respect Self and Others
The student acquires the knowledge, attitudes,
and interpersonal skills to help understand and respect self and
others.
The student will:
1. Identify personal interests,
abilities, and strengths.
2. Demonstrate a positive attitude toward self and others.
3. Tell why self and others are unique and worthy persons.
Goal 8: Goal Setting and Attainment
The student makes decisions, goal sets, and takes
action.
The student will:
1. Recognize the role values and
beliefs play in setting goals and making decisions.
2. Analyze the effectiveness of decisions he/she has made.
3. Explain the importance of goal-setting.
Goal 9: Survival and Safety Skills
The student understands safety and survival
skills.
The student will:
1. Discuss the emotional and
physical effects of substance use and abuse.
2. Identify peer pressure.
3. Discuss the importance of being responsible members of a
group, school, and community.
4. Identify ways to reduce stress.
