Goal 1: Skills for Learning
The student acquires the attitudes, knowledge,
aptitudes, and skills that contribute to effective learning in
school.
The student will:
1. Demonstrate good listening
skills.
2. State the importance of self-control.
3. Explain the need for a positive attitude.
Goal 2: School Success
The student employs strategies to achieve success
in school.
The student will:
1. Describe how learning
encourages independence.
2. State the role and function of the school counselor.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of school and classroom rules.
4. Identify the school counselor by name and title.
5. Demonstrate a sense of belonging to his/her school.
6. Learn about problem-solving strategies.
Goal 3: Academics to Life Success
The student understands
the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life
at home and in the community.
The student will:
1. Define manners and how to use
them.
2. Raise his/her hand when he/she wants to participate.
3. Demonstrate the need for sharing.
Goal 4: Investigate Careers
The student acquires the skills to investigate
the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make
career choices.
The student will:
1. Discuss his/her likes and
dislikes.
2. Define the concept of work and understand that everyone has a
job.
3. Tell why all jobs are important.
4. State that all careers are open to everyone regardless of
gender, race, creed, etc.
Goal 5: Career Success
Students will employ strategies to achieve future
career success and satisfaction.
The student will:

2. Identify the various settings that work can be done.
3. Tell why being a student is a job.
Goal 6: Relationship Between School and
Work
The student will understand the relationship
between personal qualities, education and training in the world
of work.
The student will:
1. Identify members of the school
staff and their jobs.
2. Discuss various careers in the community.
3. Identify the school counselor by name and understand his/her
role.
Goal 7: Respect Self and Others
The student acquires the knowledge, attitudes,
and interpersonal skills to help understand and respect self and
others.
The student will:
1. Identify and express feelings.
2. Explain the importance of taking care of his/her body.
3. Discuss his/her relationship to others.
4. Identify important people and enjoyable activities.
5. Identify various feelings terms.
6. Describe the basic feelings of happiness, sadness, and anger.
7. Discuss how social skills affect relationships.
