DID YOU KNOW? Pomperaug High School’s Library Media
Center and Video Production Courses Offer New and Improved
Technology Education Resources to Students and the Region 15
Community. The PHS Library
Media Center is designated a ‘Quiet Study Area’,
offering students a calming environment to study, do homework,
make up schoolwork and take tests.

With a click of the mouse, students can access online
databases to which PHS subscribes including Thomas Gale, Grolier
Encyclopedia Online and Sirs. ·
Databases, which help students research and obtain
information regarding topics and subjects required for classes,
can be accessed from any computer in the school.
Additionally, by entering user names and passwords,
students have complete access to the databases from home. ·
Enter the ‘Virtual Reading Room’ where students can
view online newspapers, magazines, books, and a Research Unit
Archive. ·
Arranged by subject, the Archive provides students with
links to online units (which have been collaboratively developed
by the library media specialist and subject area teachers),
complete with resource lists, Internet Search Tips, worksheets,
assessments and more. ·
With a quick click on ‘Cite Those Sources!’ students
can obtain examples and websites to help in forming
bibliographies for research assignments. ·
A Book Discussion Group is coming soon.

PHS Video Production courses provide students with visual
literacy skills to make informed and critical decisions as they
create several video productions using the high school’s video
studio and post production facilities.
The course promotes critical thinking, collaboration,
problem-solving, and research and time management, addressing
the needs of technologically, artistic and theatrically oriented
students. ·
The Pomperaug News Network (PNN) is a student run
news program. Students create projects, aired over Region 15’s
Educational Access Channel (EAC), using communication tools to
foster academic inquiry in meaningful, active ways.

The Dynamic Information Distribution System (D.I.D.S.)
is a new technology program that delivers information to every
student, teacher, and household in Region15. From any computer
in the world or via local cable television, members of the
community have access to the latest news, announcements, and
information from PHS. ·
Students work on several production aspects of Inside
the District, a staff and student produced cable television
show on the EAC. ·
Students and video club volunteers work 2 hour setups on
the Pomperaug Sports Entertainment Network (PSEN), and
provide professional 3 camera shoots along with play by play
sports broadcasting for the EAC.
Graphic students and volunteers are responsible for
updating the PSEN website. ·
Video students, spend ten hours a month on average,
filming Board of Education meetings that air live on the EAC. Len Hamm
