REGION 15 PTO ADVISORY COUNCIL

DID YOU KNOW?

Region 15 has a Technology Committee that is working to improve the technology curriculum.

The goal of the committee is to prepare our children to be adaptable, flexible and critical thinkers who are information literate. By using these skills, our children will be ready to succeed in the jobs of the future.

The computer technology program is designed with the following beliefs in mind:

  • The technology program provides a tool that enhances all aspects of teaching and learning but is not in and of itself a separate subject.

  • Technology must be embedded in every subject.

  • The program must be flexible and dynamic to take advantage of constant changes in the field.

  • As ethical questions arise, responsible use of technology must be considered.

  • Technology changes the nature of literacy and our students must be competent in accessing and using information.

  • Technology opens the classroom to the global community.

  • Technology offers tools for individualized instruction, meeting the creative and critical thinking needs of all students.

The computer/technology program in Region 15 is based upon the National Educational Technology Standards, which have been adopted by the State Education Department in Connecticut. It is designed to prepare students for a world that is constantly changing as technology becomes more prevalent, faster, and easier to use.

Representatives of the Technology Committee will soon be making a presentation on the technology curriculum at a PTO near you! Please contact your school’s PTO for presentation dates and times.
