MIDDLEBURY SCHOOL PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL ENGINEER’S WEEK IBM Employees Demonstrate Engineering Experiments at LMES
IBM
has again teamed up with Region 15's Long Meadow Elementary
School to introduce the world of engineering to students. An
employee from the IBM/Southbury, CT facility met with 20
students about the field of engineering and coordinate an
engineering/physics experiment.
IBM employees, Doug Ziemke and Naya
McCartney, visited Mrs. Beverly Poulin’s fifth-grade class,
at Long Meadow Elementary School on Friday, April 25th
to help them figure out how to move a balloon across the
room, using only balloon power, a straw, tape, and string.
This is the fourth year that IBM employees have participated
in Engineer’s Week at Long Meadow Elementary School. They
will visit a first-grade class during the week of April 28th.
Additionally, the IBM team members will be holding an engineering experiment at Woodbury Middle School.
IBM's role in supporting National Engineer's
Week is to arouse student interest in mathematics, science
and technology. National Engineers Week is an annual
program, sponsored by many professional engineering
association and corporations, including IBM, aimed at
increasing public awareness of engineers' contributions to
our society by celebrating innovation and technology.
