Congratulations, Mrs. LeAnn Cassidy!
Mrs. LeAnn Cassidy, Region 15’s Teacher of the Year, was named a semifinalist for the 2018 Connecticut State Teacher of the Year honor. Cassidy has worked in Region 15 at Memorial Middle School for fifteen years, serving as a Social Studies Teacher and concurrently as an Instructional Teacher Leader for the past four years.
Cassidy is described as an inspiring and passionate educator, mentor, colleague and teacher. The Region 15 Teacher of the Year Selection Committee recognized Cassidy’s focus and dedication to her students, to teamwork and to her school. She is recognized for teaching her students to be confident, life-long learners who speak and write with perseverance and intelligence while becoming respectful self-advocates.
Cassidy serves on various school committees and develops innovative assignments that capture the strengths of individual students and their abilities. Parents remark how well she engages her students as they journey through middle school, developing skills to bridge the dependency of elementary school to the independence of high school.
This is the fourth consecutive year in which the Connecticut State Department of Education has selected Region 15’s Teacher of the Year as a semifinalist for Connecticut State Teacher of the Year. Previous semifinalists were Stacie Broden, Sarah Kate Walkup and Brian T. Jehning.
“This is a well deserved honor for Mrs. Cassidy and we are delighted that she is so ably continuing Region 15’s tradition of excellence,” said Regina Lemerich Botsford, Superintendent of Region 15 Schools.
