HEALTHY EATING HABITS Healthy eating habits are one of the most important lessons a child learns. Most parents struggle with managing good eating habits and nutrition for their children of all ages. To provide necessary calories and maintain energy between meals, elementary students at Region 15 schools are encouraged to pack a healthy mid-morning snack and drink. Some healthy snack ideas for school and at home are:
· Vegetable sticks with a small container of low-fat salad dressing for dipping · Pretzels · Fresh fruit · Celery sticks · Raisins · Low-fat or non-fat fruit yogurt or yogurt in a tube · Graham crackers · Dried fruit · Tortilla chips with salsa · Popcorn
Please note: Peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil, and other nut products are strongly discouraged as snacks and lunch items due to the increase in the number of students with nut-related food allergies. |
