The
Region 15 school lunch program provides a nutritionally
balanced meal for your child that is consistent with the
U.S. Recommended Daily Allowances, calories goals, and
the new dietary guidelines, revised in 2005. The goal of the program is to provide students with high quality,
nutritious meals at a reasonable cost. Eligible students
receive meals free or at a reduced price.
In
addition to such goals as preparing and serving healthy,
safe, and economical meals to children, the food service
department is committed to promoting healthful food
choices throughout the school district. Eating a variety
of good foods doesn't just give one’s body a boost; it
also benefits a child’s brain cells.

|
In addition, studies have shown that because children are engaging in
sedentary behaviors coupled with the over-consumption of
high calorie foods, some children have the tendency
toward obesity and may be at a greater risk for such
life-threatening illnesses as diabetes, cancer, and
heart disease. The goal of the food service department
and the revised physical education curriculum is to help
students develop a pattern for healthy lifestyle
choices.
