The Regional School District 15 Board of
Education believes that healthy, active, and physically
fit children are better prepared to lead productive
lives, contribute to society, and perform academically.
In order to promote a healthy environment in all
aspects of students’ lives, the District will work to
improve and enhance student wellness by establishing
goals and guidelines in the following areas for all
grade levels:

Nutrition education promotion. |

2. |
Physical activity opportunities and
physical education. |
|
|
3. |
Nutrition standards for school foods and
beverages, including school meals served in the
cafeterias and other foods and beverages served in
schools. |

4. |
School-based activities that promote
student wellness. |
|
|
5. |
Communication and promotion of health
messages to families and the community. |
|
|
6. |
Measurement and monitoring of district
wellness policies, goals and guidelines. |
|
|
|
The Region 15 Board of Education has
established a Wellness Committee. The charge of the
Committee is to review existing policy, remain informed
of current research, and recommend program and policy
improvements. |

|
Members of the Committee are
representative of the Region 15 school community and
include the Director of Finance and Operations; the
Director of Food Services; the Director of Health,
Physical Education and Athletics; a school
administrator; a physical education teacher; a health
teacher; a Board of Education member; a representative
from the PTO; a parent; a nutritionist; a member of the
community at large; a student; and a school nurse. |

|
The Committee shall meet a minimum of
twice each school year.
The Region 15 Board of Education
authorizes the Administration to develop, following
consultation with the Wellness Committee, goals and
guidelines in furtherance of this policy in order to
promote student wellness.
