care and protection of school property

 

Policy

 

 

 

It is the policy of the Region 15 Board of Education to provide safe, clean facilities and essential instructional materials and equipment.  It is also recognized that all staff and students have a responsibility to take proper care of such facilities, materials, and equipment.  Anyone responsible for misuse of Region 15 property will be held liable for the related costs.

It is the duty of each school employee to safeguard and protect the properties of the School District.  Care shall be taken to ensure that rooms and buildings are properly secured.  Any instance of misuse of Region property will be reported immediately to the appropriate building Principal.

Students shall be instructed in regard to the proper use of instructional materials and respect and regard for public property.

 

Damage to School Property

·   

Anyone found to be guilty of the willful or malicious damage to any school property shall be required to pay in full for all damages.  In the specific instance of lost or damaged textbooks, students shall pay for the cost of replacement or repair.

·   

Notice of such damage shall be sent to the parent or guardian by the Principal and in default of satisfactory settlement, the case shall be reported to the Superintendent.

·   

Further notice of damage and direct liability shall be provided the parents by the Superintendent’s office.  In the event that payment is still outstanding 14 (fourteen) days following such notice, the matter will be referred to outside agencies for collection.

·   

In special circumstances, the Superintendent may recommend to the Board exceptions to the above stated policy.
