Policies
No. 5142 Students Series 5000 Evaluation of Exceptional Children Policy
It
is the policy of the Region 15 Board of Education that any
student who is a resident of the Region, whether enrolled in
a Region’s school or private school, and who is
experiencing significant learning problems, shall be referred to the Individual Education
Program (IEP) Team in the schools (or the school he/she
would be attending if being educated in the District.
The IEP Team will review the case, and if
appropriate, recommend that the student have a comprehensive
evaluation, conducted by a multi-disciplinary team.
After all assessments are completed, an IEP Team
meeting will be held to review the results, identify the
student’s needs, and determine eligibility for a special
education program and/or related services. If
the student meets the criteria for special education and/or
related services an Individual Education Program (IEP)
including goals and objectives will be developed for the
student. This
program will be reviewed at least annually, and the student
will be re-evaluated at least every three years. Approved:
