Adoption of Textbooks

Policy

It is the policy of the Region 15 Board of Education that:

1.

The Board of Education shall adopt all basic and co-basic* textbooks to be used in the schools.  Prior to adopting, a copy of the recommended text(s) shall be made available for examination by Board members.

2.

All basic and co-basic textbooks adopted for use shall be reviewed and readopted or replaced after having been used for five years.  The five-year prerequisite may be waived by the Board of Education when the course outline has been significantly revised or when there is other good reason for changing text.

3.

Textbook recommendations shall be made to the Board in writing and shall include a list of texts examined.  Major reasons for the recommended choice shall be indicated in writing.

Basic and co-basic texts are those selected to provide the basic material for developing the course of study and to serve as the source primarily relied upon to achieve the objectives of the course of study.
