GES
Facilities Work Update |
As of
the 10th of August, the following is an
assessment of the facilities work at Gainfield
Elementary School:
-
Asbestos abatement is 98 percent finished and the last
two classrooms will be abated on the 13th.
-
The
radon remediation has started and the PVC piping has
been installed in all but the two classrooms where the
asbestos material must be removed. Once the abatement
is completed, the remainder of the PVC piping will be
installed as well as the exhaust fans enabling the
system to vent out radon. We expect this project will
be completed by the 20th of August.
-
Roof repairs have been made to our portable classroom
units, and the roofing company is in the process of
repairing the grade four roofs.
With the new roofs installed in the portables, we
decided to paint the exterior of the units and install
new windows, which should ready for installation by the
end of this month. |

Summer
Curriculum Work |
The days
immediately following the close of school marks the time
when we are immersed
in the work of revising and revamping curriculum. This
summer, Dr. Lanning and 32 staff members, representing
kindergarten through Grade 12, began the work of
revising our Language Arts curriculum. Due to the scope
of this work, it will take two to three years to fully
develop and articulate all the revisions for Language
Arts.
Also in June, 37
staff members, again representing kindergarten through
grade 12, participated in Social Studies curriculum
work. Staff members focused on clarifying our
commitment to conceptual understanding and creating
curriculum units that will give students a better
understanding of Social Studies.
Our curriculum evaluation and revision cycle ensures all
disciplines will be regularly reviewed and revised in
order to stay current, relevant, and rigorous. |
