Instructional Development

Dr. Lanning and I recently facilitated a workshop with Region 15 Administrators on effective 21st century school leadership. Using the book Change Leadership as a guide, Administrators discussed the seven disciplines for improving instruction and assessing Region 15’s progress.  The authors of Change Leadership identified the following seven practices as central to a successful systemic-instructional improvement effort:

  1. Urgency for instructional improvement using real data
  2. Shared vision of good teaching
  3. Meeting about the work
  4. A shared vision of student results
  5. Effective supervision
  6. Professional development
  7. Diagnostic data with accountable collaboration

These practices represent an interdependent systems approach to improving instruction.

It is encouraging to know that our administrative team continues to focus on how best to effect systemic improvement so that all children’s learning improves.

District-wide Elementary Math Coach Mr. Jeff Haddad, Grade Five Teacher at PES, is serving as the full-time District-wide Elementary Math Coach.  Mr. Haddad will spend one full-day per week at each elementary school working with all grade levels to enhance the effectiveness of mathematics instruction.  This resource position is grant funded, and it is in place through June, 2008.

Lunch Price Increases

Our goal is to provide healthy, nutritious, and affordable lunches for our students.  We continually strive to hold the line on costs. Recent increases passed on to us by vendors as well as the introduction of healthier food options necessitate a $.50 increase in lunch prices for 2007-08.  Please note the increase as follows:

Elementary school lunches

$2.30

Middle School and High School lunches

$2.50
