PHS Habitat Club Building Dreams

Pomperaug High School’s Habitat Club has participated in two Youth Builds with the Greater Waterbury Habitat for Humanity organization. The house is being built for a single mom and her two children ages 5 and 3 who are in desperate need of affordable housing. The all-woman crews, Christie C., Alexandra M., Danielle G., Christine B., Tricia P., Katherine B., and Jennifer L. have assisted in putting up siding and hanging drywall.

Members of the club have sponsored various fundraisers, including bake sales in and out of school. They were able to raise $2000 and presented a check on February 17 to Doreen Ryan, Youth Coordinator of the Waterbury Chapter.

Members are planning on participating in future builds and the City of Dreams in April at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury. The purpose of the City of Dreams is to emphasize the lack of affordable housing in the area. The students will create a cardboard city and sleep in boxes overnight to bring awareness to the plight of the homeless. The students will be asking for pledges for the City of Dreams and in support of The Greater Waterbury Habitat for Humanity.

Should you wish to make a donation, please send a check made out to PHS Habitat, 234 Judd Road, Southbury, CT 06488.
