History Day Results
Bailey B. and Jessica U. placed 4th in the Junior Group Exhibit for their project, “Harriet Beecher Stowe: Writing the Wrongs of Slavery.” They also received the “Best in State” Award for the Junior Division. Matthew M. placed 8th in the Junior Individual Documentary for his project “Prudence Crandall: Taking a Stand for Equality in Connecticut Education.” Although our PHS students did not make the final round, they did make a definite impact as a result of their presentation. Carolyn W. and Kate H. had interviewed Nancy Perry, Vice President of the National Humane Society of the United States, for their project titled “Taking a Stand for America's Horses.” While in Washington, Carolyn was able to meet with Nancy Perry and show the documentary to her and the staff at the Humane Society. They were so impressed with the project that they brought her over to Capitol Hill to meet with several Congressmen. The tape was viewed in several Congressional Offices and has been ordered to be sent to various individuals sponsoring a current bill in Congress. Nancy Perry is planning to set up an event in Washington for the girls to attend and present their project on the horse slaughter issue. Please join me in thanking Mrs. Sharon Wlodarczyk for her guidance as the students’ advisor. Our students have participated in a marvelous learning opportunity because of her efforts. |
