“Inside the District” Premieres on WTCH, Channels 16 & 17
 

            In April, Region 15 TV WTCH launched its new, student and staff produced television show called, “Inside the District”. 

            The local cable show, which airs on channel 16 in Middlebury and channel 17 in Southbury, was developed and co-produced by Memorial Middle School history teacher, LeAnn Cassidy and Region 15’s School/Home/Community Liaison, Karen Kirk.  The show is directed and edited by Scott Sniffen who runs the Pomperaug High School student production crew.

            Hosted by Southbury parent, Anna Teardo, and co-hosted by Kathryn W., the premiere show features interviews with members of the Information Technology Learning Academy (ITLA) at Pomperaug High School as well as district wide student artwork currently on display in local area businesses.

            The show also features information about the Region 15 Art Show, music from around the District, and The Coaches’ Corner with interviews by Pomperaug High School senior Will C..  “Inside the District” will feature a different student co-host from month to month. 

            “An integral part of the District’s Strategic Plan is to improve communications between the school and the community. ‘Inside the District’ showcases student and staff achievements while giving students an opportunity to learn about video production, editing, lighting, and set design,” said Ms. Kirk.

            “The first show turned out so well,” continued Kirk. “I was thrilled to see students running the cameras and the microphones, Anna (Teardo) and Kathryn are so professional, and Will C. is a natural interviewer. 

            “We extend thanks to parents Ellie Boyd and Fran Tepperman for the exterior footage and interviews of business owners and members of the community for our ‘Arts in Business’ segment.  We also thank the PHS PTO for donating the funds for our great set,” said Kirk. 

            “This has really been a school and community effort getting this show on the air and we hope everyone tunes in from month to month to see the great things that are happening in Region 15,” she said.

            This month’s segment of “Inside the District” can be seen at the following times: 7:00 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 12:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m., 10:00 p.m., 12 midnight and 12:30 a.m.
