New "Inside the District" Episode Features Curriculum and Art Work
“Inside the District”, Region 15’s student and staff produced television show, airs a new episode on Region 15 TV WTCH, Channels 16 (Middlebury) and 17 (Southbury). The last show of the school year, this episode spotlights the Social Studies and Language Arts curricula. Memorial Middle School teacher, Karl Buckley and Gainfield Elementary School teacher, Mary Gaipa, discuss how Instructional Teacher Leaders help shape curriculum updates. Show host, Anna Teardo visits with Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Frank H. Sippy to discuss Educational Cost Sharing. Dr. Sippy touches upon how the State funding helps alleviate taxpayer burdens. Also, “Inside the District” features highlights from a visit by Chinese dignitaries from Shandong Province. The Principal of the Laiwu City No. 1 High School and two teachers visited Pomperaug High School in February and held a town meeting to introduce their school to the PHS student body. Each episode of “Inside the District” is co-hosted by a different Region 15 student in order to give students authentic experience as a newscaster or reporter. This month, Memorial Middle School sixth grader, Maggie P., fills the co-host seat. Together, Maggie and Anna also showcase student artwork from Long Meadow Elementary School and the special student achievements. Video footage from the Middlebury Elementary School art show at Good News Café was shot by PHS student, Jill J. “Inside the District” was developed and co-produced by Memorial Middle School math and history teacher, LeAnn Cassidy and Region 15’s School/Home/Community Liaison, Karen Kirk. Directed by Charlie Vlahos, PHS’s Technology and Video Teacher, “Inside the District” showcases student and staff achievements throughout Region 15, while providing students with an opportunity to learn about video production, editing, lighting, and set design.
