WTCH’s “Inside the District” Highlights Heritage Village’s Betty Ramey and Region 15’s Teacher of the Year
Student/Staff-produced Show on Educational Channels 16 & 17

The student- and staff-produced Region 15 WTCH-TV television show, “Inside the District”, will feature segments about Betty Ramey, an artist who lives in Heritage Village, the new Board of Education members, and Diane Hibbard, Region 15’s 2008 Teacher of the Year. The new episode is scheduled to air in early December on the towns’ educational access channel.

Southbury parent, Anna Teardo, hosts each episode of “Inside the District”. Additionally, to give students practical on-air experience, each show is co-hosted by a different Region 15 student. This month, Pomperaug High School junior, Morgan P. fills the co-host seat.

This month, the show will also feature an interview with school superintendent, Dr. Frank Sippy. Dr. Sippy will be talking about the District’s plans for possible building upgrades, construction, and maintenance.

The local cable show, which airs on channel 16 in Middlebury and channel 17 in Southbury, is co-produced by Memorial Middle School mathematics and history teacher, LeAnn Cassidy and Region 15’s School/Home/Community Liaison, Karen Kirk. Directed by Charlie Vlahos, Pomperaug High School, Technology and Video Teacher, “Inside the District” showcases student and staff achievements throughout Region 15, while providing students with an opportunity to learn about video production, editing, lighting, and set design.  Production of the show is a community project shared by students, parents and members of the Region 15 staff.

“An integral part of the District’s Strategic Plan is to improve communications between the school and the community. ‘Inside the District’ highlights what the students and staff are achieving while giving students an opportunity to learn about video production, editing, lighting, and set design,” said Ms. Kirk.
