August-September

• Think about career plans

• Register in the Career Center for PSAT/NMSQT

• Obtain dates/places of College Fairs

• Purchase or borrow college reference books

• Plan next two years extra-curricular and community service activities

• Be sure to have your Social Security Number

October

• Read PSAT/NMSQT Bulletin

• Take PSAT

• Develop list of interests

• Study hard!

November

• Talk to counselor about college interests

• Put forth best academic effort in these last years

December

• Using PSAT/NMSQT results and materials, begin to develop range of colleges

• Read Taking the SAT I

• Talk with graduates who are home from college

• Develop a preliminary list of colleges which interest you. Write/email them for information

• The Career Center has software programs which will develop a list of colleges for you

January

• Continue career exploration

• Prepare for mid term exams--colleges look at junior year grades

• Register for Spring SAT I or SAT II

February

• Research interesting and challenging summer courses, jobs or activities

• Attend small group meetings with your counselor to plan senior classes and discuss colleges

• Attend Junior/Parent College Meeting

March

• Consider taking SAT II in courses your are finishing this year

• Apply for proposed summer activities

• Purchase tickets for Advanced Placement (AP) tests, if appropriate

• Register in the Career Center for the Hartford College Fair

• Register for May SAT's

• Plan college visits to colleges which interest you

• Request applications for Military Academies and ROTC Scholarships

• Begin college visits

• Explore Early Decision/Early Action options
