Emma S., a 7th grader at Rochambeau Middle School, was named a finalist in a French contest sponsored by the New York Historical Society, the French Embassy and the American Association of Teachers of French.

      The theme of the contest was to celebrate the Marquis de Lafayette's 250th birthday and honor his legacy and ideals. Emma submitted a pencil drawing on wood of the Marquis de Lafayette.

   Emma was one of 81 finalists out of 3,000 students from the tri-state area. She and her parents attended a ceremony and reception at the New York Historical Society in Manhattan.
