Jump Rope for Heart

Middlebury Elementary School fourth and fifth graders raised over $10,000 for the American Heart Association in the school's annual Jump Rope for Heart. The event's coordinator, M.E.S. physical education teacher, Marc Stockno, reported that 130 students jumped rope for over an hour and a half after school this past Valentine's Day.  M.E.S. parents, faculty, and staff chaperoned and donated fresh fruit to the jumpers.

According to the American Heart Association, the purpose of the event is for students to gain an awareness of the issues surrounding heart disease and stroke, to promote physical activity in young people, and to empower children to take an active role in contributing to their community. Further information about Jump Rope for Heart can be found at americanheart.org.   Congratulations to all of the jumpers!
