On May 6, 2005, the Memorial Middle School Stage Band and Chamber Orchestra performed at an adjudication at Yale University under the direction of Dr. Thomas C. Duffy, Band Director and Deputy Dean of the School of Music.

The students performed beautifully and were awarded a plaque. In addition, each group was given performance tips and instruction on their pieces. The students also had a fascinating lecture and tour of the famous organ in Woolsey Hall at Yale University by the organ faculty.

In the Fall of 2005, upon returning to school, the MMS groups learned that Dr. Duffy had returned his honorarium for the day, stating that he wanted to give something back to the students. He was so impressed with the students' musicality and good behavior that he was donating his check back to the school.

With Dr. Thomas C. Duffy's donation, Memorial Middle School received a new guitar amp and will be dedicating it to Dr. Duffy. The groups are looking forward to more wonderful days at Yale.
