Dr.
Frank Sippy to Address Budget Concerns and Questions at
Neighborhood Coffees in Region 15 Communities
Region 15 Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Frank Sippy, is speaking to Middlebury and Southbury residents about
the 2006-2007 school budget at neighborhood coffees in private
homes, within both communities.
These informal gatherings, taking place from
mid-March
through late-April, are a chance for residents to learn more
about the budget and how it will impact Region 15 students
and the future of its schools.
Information about the school budget is provided by
Region 15 in a number of ways and the Neighborhood Coffees
are a great way to learn about the school budget process and
the details of the budget.
The intimate setting of someone’s home or
neighborhood clubhouse, lends itself to a casual back and
forth conversation filled with questions, answers and ideas.
It also offers residents, who do not currently have
children in the school system, a firsthand opportunity to
learn more and ask questions of Dr. Sippy.
Talks will cover such issues as the impact of the
budget on class size and school supplies in the coming year.
Dr. Sippy is excited about this forum to discuss
the budget, answer questions and address concerns.
“A
Board of Education or Finance Board meeting can be an
intimidating setting for some residents,” Dr. Sippy
explained. “People
are more likely to speak freely when sitting among friends
in a familiar setting”.
According to Dr. Sippy, no question is too small or
insignificant. “I
want any concerned citizen from our two towns, to be able to
sit in a room with me and feel free to begin a two way
dialogue. This
is the best way for both of us to learn”.
You need not be a parent of a child currently
enrolled in Region 15 to take part in these talks.
Any resident of either town can host or attend a
Neighborhood Coffee. Anyone who has questions or is interested in hosting a coffee is asked to e-mail Region 15, School/Home/Community Liaison Fran Tepperman or call her at 262-6213.
