Fourth Grade
(
In art, the grade 4 students are currently working on incorporating foreground,
middle ground and background in a collage about their favorite place. Miss Caban
wants the students to have the opportunity to share something that's important
to them with others. The students wrote at least 2 sentences describing why the
place they chose is important to them.

In gym, DDR (Dance, Dance, Revolution) is a great way to become active and have
fun. Students have been learning about cardiovascular and skeletal health. DDR
is a great activity for both because students can choose their own intensity
level, and since it is a weight bearing activity, it is also excellent for
building stronger bones.

Mrs. Jerome's class won the Dr. Seuss Reading Incentive Prize for reading the
most books during the "Read Across America! Oh! The Places You'll Go!"
Activity.
They were rewarded with a "Sundae Surprise" and a small gift.

"Fractured Fairy Tales" is a creative project that Mr. Ciccone's class has just
completed. These skits were performed in the classroom and it culminated a unit
of comparing and contrasting fairy tales.

We read an article in Time for Kids called "A Mighty Heart" which
was about a teenage American orphan who went back to her native Peru and was
saddened by the poverty and malnutrition of orphans. She decided to create a
program called "A Mighty Heart" to collect money to help these poor children.

We found out that Will Nichols' grandfather, Dr. Stoughton has
been in Zimbabwe, Africa for over 10 years helping an orphanage. These children
are also very poor. In December, we decided to help these orphans who are less
fortunate than us. We raised $456. and over 30 lbs. of clothing and supplies.
Will's

grandmother, Mrs. Stoughton, came to visit us and thank us
personally for our help and for showing such compassion. We learned a lot about
Zimbabwe, the animals and the people from a slide show. Mackenzie said, "I am so
excited that my class is helping the children and just can't wait till they get
all our presents!" Lindsay Scott said, "This project made my compassion grow and
get the feeling of what it was like to have a terrible life and that's what
changed my thoughts about helping people around the world."

Emergency Room Activity Bags
In January, Mrs. Jerome's grade 4 Good Deed was to make Emergency Room Activity
bags for Danbury Hospital.
Alex Daskam said, "Many times, sick, little children have to wait a long time to
see the doctor in an emergency room. This activity will help pass the time and
stop them from thinking about how serious their wounds might be or what the
doctors might have to do to them. this makes sick kids very happy. We made
hundreds of bags and the total amount of bags weighed about 10lbs." Annabella
Pastornak said, I felt great knowing that little kids will have something to do
while waiting. I know what that feels like because my sister had to wait in the
emergency room for hours and hours and I was with her and I had nothing to do."
Richard Schaus said, "I feel great when I help people."

What will you have? Mom is all out of cocoa. No worries. YOU (yes, YOU!)can make
your own hot chocolate to have by the fireplace.

How do you make this? you might ask. How do you whip up a delicious cup of hot
chocolate? Just follow these simple directions.
Pour straight into a mug:
3 Tablespoons of nonfat powdered milk
3 teaspoons of sugar
2 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons of nondairy powdered creamer
2 teaspoons mini chocolate chips
1 handful of mini marshmallows
Dash of salt
Then, mix with large cup of hot/boiling water.
A GREAT idea for Valentine's Day!!!
Show your sweetheart what Valentine's Day really means with a steaming cup of
hot chocolate.
Put the ingredients for one cup in a sandwich baggie and tie it with a pretty
red ribbon and seal it with a Hershey kiss!
There you have it!
