PETER ROAD CONSTRUCTION There is ongoing construction on Peter Road in Southbury, and construction will continue into November. As a result, there is one lane of traffic under the overpass just past RMS. There is currently a light there, which has been temporarily installed to assist with the flow of traffic. The lights are on a 1.5 minute cycle, which means that the light will be green every 60 seconds, and remain green for approximately 30 seconds. This 30 second green, equates to approximately six to eight passenger vehicles passing through the area. IMPACT ON REGION 15 SCHOOLS POMPERAUG HIGH SCHOOL Buses 28 and 33 are two high school buses that will travel this area.. MIDDLE SCHOOL Buses 15, 19, 22, and 39 will travel through this area on a daily basis. Road construction will only affect AM runs, because these buses will be traveling on Main Street in the PM. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Buses 10, 13, 14, 22, and 41 will be completing middle school routes and heading to the elementary school and will be traveling on Peter Road. These five buses may be impacted most by road construction. We will need to monitor this situation carefully to see whether or not this construction will seriously impact transportation. For the first three (3) days of school, there will be police present at the sight. The police and DOT personnel will evaluate the flow of traffic and make additional modifications to the traffic lights if necessary. We may also seek additional assistance from the Department of Transportation should the modifications not relieve traffic problems. Finally we may ask parents who elect to pick up their child at school to leave RMS via Main Street thereby reducing the volume of traffic traveling Peter Road. |
