The Region 15 Tri-M Music Honor Society will present a benefit concert on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the Pomperaug High School Auditorium. The concert will support the Afghan Child Education and Care Organization (AFCECO) Girls Orphanage Music Program in Kabul and the Afghanistan National Institute of Music. All proceeds will help provide access to music for the young people of Afghanistan.
Some of the ensembles which have signed up to perform for the evening include the PHS Jazz Band, PHS Chamber Orchestra, Combined Middle and High School Chamber Orchestras, 8-12 Grade Choir Ensemble, and String Bass Ensemble (at right).
In addition, musicians from Cuatro Puntos, a collective of chamber musicians dedicated to global cooperation and peace through the writing, performance, and teaching of music worldwide, will be performing a variety of pieces.
During the summer of 2014, Region 15 middle school orchestra teacher Holly Bishop and her husband, Kevin, were invited to teach at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music to coach chamber music and strings to young Afghan musicians. They expect to return to Kabul again this year.
The concert is free and donations will be accepted at the door.
The Snow Date is Wednesday, February 11.
