Pomperaug
Community Network The
Region 15 school district is building a community outreach
program in order to bring residents of the towns into our
schools for educational purposes. The citizens in our towns are
rich with knowledge and may wish to share this background with
local young people. Region
15 is looking for interested residents who wish to speak with
students about your expertise or background in a particular
subject. Your presentation would help “personalize” what the
student is studying through the curriculum and give the topic a
real-world angle. For
example, a teacher may be doing a lesson on the Korean War and
would like to have a war veteran come into the classroom to
share what it was like, display a uniform and medals, show
newspaper clippings, or read a letter from a loved one.
Likewise, an artist specializing in portraits or sculpture can
share with children the skills and techniques which have worked
well for you. Residents
