Region 15 School District Installs PowerSchool Software
Benefits: Saves Time and Resources

After a thorough needs assessment, the Pomperaug Regional School District #15 has implemented “PowerSchool”, a new student management system which will allow teachers and staff to streamline access to information and create reports and schedules.

The new, easy-to-use student information system can be run on any computer with web access and replaces the District’s outdated software which had been in use since 1987. Teachers will have direct access to the system, making electronic attendance-taking from the classroom and maintaining an electronic gradebook from home a reality.  In addition, staff can immediately access student contact and demographic information, as well as develop class schedules and reports.

Over the summer, technology administrators converted student data and trained the school secretaries, nurses, attendance office, administrators and district staff on the software. Classroom and homeroom teachers are currently learning how to input attendance information.  Additional training sessions will be provided to staff as needed on such tasks as maintaining an electronic gradebook.

Next school year, Region 15 parents, guardians, and students will be able to enter a Parent Portal. PowerSchool gives parents and students secure access to information, e.g. grades, school bulletins, lunch menus, attendance information, and provides a way to communicate with teachers from home.

Russell Sage, Region 15’s Director of Information Technology believes there will be many benefits to introducing PowerSchool to the District.

“The consolidation of servers and databases from many to one, flexibility with regards to customization to fit our ever-growing data needs, and ease of use to save time are all noticeable benefits of the software,” said Mr. Sage. “We could eventually stop processing and printing certain reports because data can now be accessed and shared via the web, thereby saving time and paper.”

Nearly 9,000 schools throughout the United States use PowerSchool. Region 15 is the 42nd district within the state to implement the software.

“This is an exciting prospect that will allow us to share and use data more efficiently over time,” said Mr. Sage.
