ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES WED
April 5th 2006 Attendees: Len Hamm, Jackie Mulhall, Sandi Carbonari Welsh, Liz Falconer, Sue Isaacs, Janice Phillips-Robinson, Karen Kirk, Fran Tepperman, Nanette Dorsey, Nancy Paul, Suzanne Kenishea, Amy Von Culin, Juan Rodriguez- Torrent, Michelle Alvord, Carol Hubert, Frank Sippy I Minutes of March Meeting approved. II. Treasurer’s Report. Current balance is $2159.80 III. Dr. Frank Sippy 1. Weds 21st June will be last day of school. 2. Graduations will all be held in the new PHS Gym on the following dates RMS 19th June MMS 20th June PHS 21st June 3. Budget Still looking at an increase of 4.74%. May be some enrollment issues at LMES and MMS particularly kindergarten. Will find funding. Dr Sippy attended a Coffee in Brookside where 30 more houses are left to be sold. Will be doing a coffee in Traditions in Southbury April 27th. Several new housing developments are appearing in Middlebury and also in Southbury. Dr Chung has submitted a draft report on enrollment forecasts but is currently doing additional work re these housing developments. Looks like PHS enrollment will stay around 1400 over next 4-5 years. K and elementary sees largest growth first, then Middle schools. Budget of $195,000 for infrastructure is not enough for all needed work. Committee now formed to look at needs/ new buildings etc. Dr Sippy will be speaking to the secretary of state re the wording of the vote and checking consistency in 2 towns re order of questions. We need to get voters out. Apathy is a real danger this year. IV. Carol Hubert. Southbury Board of Selectmen The Southbury town proposed budget increases the mil rate by 1.7%. Opening of the New Library is being planned. Other Business 1.Look out for Dr Sippy’s presentation on educational cost sharing . Also note “Inside the district” new TV program . 2. Budget section has been expanded on region website and there is a brochure about the website being distributed. 3. Vote cards will be printed and labeled at next meeting. April 26th
