ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES WED
Sept 6th 2006 Attendees: Len Hamm, Sandi Carbonari Welsh, Liz Falconer, Janice Phillips-Robinson, Nanette Dorsey, Suzanne Kenishea, Susi Jones, Jennifer Minchella, Julie Koulouris, Connie Herr, Juan Rodriguez-Torrent, Carol Hubert, Frank Sippy, Glen Shipway. II. Len Hamm Requests that we use Len and Jackie’s personal emails to contact as the PTO advisory email is not checked as frequently. Not for profit school status. All now incorporated except for RMS. Now will receive paperwork for employee ID numbers. III. Glen Shipway Negotiations on teacher contracts start today. First BOE meeting Sept. 11th PTO Advisory requested BOE to look at PHS class sizes, particularly Sophomore and Juniors. Many classes seem to above the BOE recommended sizes. IV. Frank Sippy Security Systems are being installed at schools. LMES now has electronic card entry to doors except the Mail Office. 5 year capital plan will phase this into all schools. Still no Resource Officer at the PHS. Southbury refused. Carol Hubert suggests this may be a good time to go back to the Board of Selectmen with a proposal giving cost benefits of having an officer at PHS. As of June 30th 103 changes in staff and 44 new staff. Our DRG has been reassigned to DRG B. Includes Avon, Simsbury, Farmington. New staff at PHS include new Library/ Media .5 video production .5 computer All have good experience. SAT and CAPT scores are out and are OK. Will be examined and changes made as necessary. Trying to be more efficient with Bus Routes Etc. LMES kindergarten had a few problems with buses. Lmes had enrolled 31 more students since school started) New Developments are a problem. Traditions and Brookside have narrow roads, difficult for buses to turn around etc. Facilities group will be meeting end Sept to look at needs of the region. Chung’s demographic study needs revision in light of new developments particularly in Middlebury IV. Carol Hubert There will be a new referendum for the expansion of the old library and town hall. Southbury has a $2million surplus. How did this happen? V. Did You Knows need to be done the last week of previous month to publish in newsletters. Sign ups were circulated for Did You Knows and Refreshments.
