PTO ADVISORY COUNCIL

MINUTES

WED Nov 2nd 2005

Attendees: Len Hamm, Sandi Carbonari Welsh, Liz Falconer, Barbara Tzepos, Sue Isaacs, Michelle Alvord, Suzanne Kenishea, Amy Von Cullin, Janice Phillips-Robinson, Nancy Paul, Stefanie O’Connor, Teresa McLean, Nanette Dorsey, Gale Morse, Karen Kirk.

I.                    Minutes of October meeting approved.

II.                 Treasurer’s Report. Current balance is $1069.80

III.               Len Hamm (reporting for Dr Sippy)

1.      MMS Mold. See updates on MMS website.

2.      Budget process is starting now. Reminder: all board of finance meetings are open meetings.

IV.              Carol Hubert

1.      New Southbury Library will be opening January 2006.

2.      Upcoming elections for BOE and finance.

V.                 New Business

                1. "Did You Know” for Dec will be MMS New Board of Education Members.

                2. Dave Hunter has approached Dr Sippy to do a presentation on Lyme Disease
                    at each school. This was not considered a PTO sponsored event.

                3. Technology Foundation is being set up by Doug Ziemke to excite kids about
                     technology.

                4. Nov. 16th Education Foundation Meeting. Dr Paddyfote and Diane Creed.

                5. Questions being asked about PTO insurance coverage. Being investigated.

                6. A new “wellness” committee is being started by Keith McLiverty. Comments
                     made about lack of progress with healthy lunches. Need to revisit. Also
                     portions at middle   and high school seem small.

                7. Teresa McLean (RMS) is ordering memory sticks for their school store. Is
                     any other school interested in ordering as great cost savings with quantity?

                8. School Celebrations committee had a 2-hour meeting. Summary will be
                     forwarded to Dr Sippy and Dr Lanning.

                 9. Karen Kirk informed us that they are redoing the curriculum part of the
                     website. There will be links to each grade etc. In January Dr Sippy will be
                     hosting cable TV Show with guest teachers, students etc.
