PTO ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES

WED Sept 7th 2005

 Attendees: Len Hamm, Sandi Carbonari Welsh, Liz Falconer Barbara Tzepos, Sue Isaacs, Jackie Mulhall,  Michelle Alvord, Kelley Gurvis, Suzanne Kenishea, Amy Von Cullin, Janice Phillips-Robinson, Stefanie O’Connor, Nancy Paul, Liz Nerzig, Teresa McLean, Sherri Desmarais Frank Sippy, Carol Hubert.

I.      Treasurer’s Report. Current balance is $609.80Request a donation of $200 from  each PTO. Please bring to next Advisory Meeting

II.    Dr. Frank Sippy

1.    Trying to conclude final bus routes by 4.30pm. Problems with traffic off I84.

2.    Enrollment is about where we thought. Gainfield over 500 with 60 students now coming from Traditions development. 30 students also from the Brookside development in Middlebury. RMS is up 25, MMS about the same as last year. PHS now approaching 1400.

Have to look again at forecasting enrollments and specifically Gainfield space issues this year.

3.   Budget. Already being cautious with spending and purchase restrictions have been issued. Price of fuel oil not yet locked in. Looking to enforce efficiency measures down the road.

4.   Assistant Principal vacancy at RMS. Mr. Sabo will be interim until candidate found, hopefully by Thanksgiving.

III.    Sherri Desmarais, Perpetual Fund

              Fundraiser this Saturday, Movie night at Quassy Parking Lot. Also looking for
              Donations.

IV.    Carol Hubert New Southbury Library should be open by end October.

New Business

              Task Force needed on Celebrations Mainly from Elementary schools to come up with recommendations by end October. 1 or 2 reps needed from each elementary school.

1.    Reconsideration committee being formed. Will only meet if textbooks are challenged on as needed basis. Volunteers needed from all schools.

2.    Board of Ed elections this November. League of women voters has asked PTO Advisory to host a meet and greet for the candidates. Janice made a motion that we do this, seconded by Amy. Kelley Gurvis volunteered to coordinate along with Sandi, Barbara and Stephanie. This will take place at PHS sometime end October and hopefully be televised.

3.    We will be producing monthly Did You Knows again this year. Jackie will coordinate. Each school sign up for a month.

4.    PTO Dinner will be hosted by Gainfield this year and will be on May1st 2006.
